Combating Threats to Voice over IP Services

There are three Key threats to Voice over IP (VoIP) services:

  1. Exploitation of VoIP Product Vulnerabilities Like any technology, VoIP products also suffer vulnerabilities that need to be addressed.
  2. Specific Denial of Service (DoS) Denial of service threats that are specific to the various VoIP protocols or the particular attributes of the VoIP application.
  3. General DoS General denial of service threats that can affect VoIP service threats that can affect VoIP services but are not targeted specifically at VoIP protocols.

The impacts of these threats vary. The main reason for deploying VoIP is cost savings but if an exploited VoIP gateway is being used for long distance calls, how big is that saving? Or if a DoS attack prevents calls from being made, or reduces quality to an unacceptable level, what cost is there to the business?

iSimile's Management solutions help ensure that VoIP services are maintained with minimal disruption and at an optimum quality of service.

iSimile's solutions include:

  • Vulnerability Management to ensure that VoIP gateways and other devices are not vulnerable to exploits
  • Network Security Management to identify and remediate against anomalous network activity, such as a denial of service attack
  • Security Process Management to identify and provide incident workflow for attacks against VoIP services
  • VoIP Performance Management to identify the performance of critical VoIP service components, including the Mean Opinion Score (MoS) and jitter between Key VoIP sites, and to alert on any degradation of service
